Shunt intervention

Not only does renal insufficiency involve systemic problems; it can also be associated with local problems at the shunt site.

Because we have been using endogenic arterio-venous fistulae (Bescia-Cimino) since 1996, we are able to provide our terminal renal insufficiency patients with long-term treatment or bridge them until they can undergo kidney transplant. Today endovascular therapy helps us manage shunt problems. Stenotic or occluded native or prosthetic shunts can now be treated through an endovascular approach. We will discuss the diagnostic and therapeutic procedures for shunt dysfunction and show you, with the aid of case histories, how you can manage possible complications.
